Carl started as production assistant at Universal Studios, eventually becoming an Associate Producer on "Law & Order". Working under Emmy winning Editor & Producer, Arthur W. Forney, he discovered film editing and set his sights on a new career. Although documentaries would become a through line, a variety of genres would define his abilities. In 2017, Carl was awarded an Emmy for a long form sports documentary. In addition to editing, Carl is Executive Producing on two feature length documentaries, due for release at the end of 2023.
